I know that many people in the Bendigo Electorate care deeply about what happens to animals.

Whether it was the image of an Australian steer being bludgeoned to death with a sledgehammer in Vietnam, or the sight of greyhounds being allowed to tear small animals apart at a greyhound training track – so many dreadful things happen to animals.
This election the Animal Justice Party (AJP) needs your vote. A vote for the AJP is a vote to work for animals and:
- Ban live export
- Protect our iconic wildlife
- End factory farming, and
- Establish an Independent Office of Animal Welfare.
Something that no other candidates or your current elected representative is talking about is the major cause of climate change. Climate change is everyone’s concern. Nobody can escape it.
Your wealth can’t protect you, four-minute showers help but they are not the answer, solar panels are great but they are not the answer and using less fossil fuels, whilst important, is also not the answer.
The thing that no one seems to want to talk about is animal agriculture and climate change. Here are just a few facts:
- Globally, animal agriculture accounts for 70% of fresh water consumption and 38% of total land use
- In Victoria, dairy farming accounts for 54% of the state’s agricultural water usage and 53% of the state’s irrigated land
- It takes 1000 litres of water to produce one litre of milk.
Why is the AJP concerned about this? Apart from the reality that we are all on this planet together, a win for climate change views and actions is also a win for animals.
If we reduce our dependence on animals for food and clothing, we will go a long way towards reducing the effects of climate change and we will also reduce the suffering of animals.
I am standing as a candidate for the AJP because I believe that when people become kind and compassionate towards animals, that this flows on to their relationships with other people and the planet.
The AJP promotes the needs of animals and sees animals as worthy of having rights and freedom from cruelty. Our platform is clear: to have a better world for animals is to also have a better world for people.
By voting for the Animal Justice Party you have a chance to put Bruce Poon into the Senate.
An AJP Senator is the start for the voice of animals to be truly heard in our Parliament
