Caldwell picked up 27 possessions and kicked a goal in a best on ground performance as Vic Country defeated Vic Metro by 20 points at Simonds Stadium.
“Jye played most of the game through the midfield and was solid all day,’’ Vic Country manager Jock Whiting said.
“He gave us plenty of drive and his finishing work and clean hands were very important. He’s a very accomplished footballer.”
Vic Country won 11.7 (73) to 8.5 (53).
Caldwell’s home club is Golden Square, but he’s presently based in Geelong after accepting a scholarship to attend Geelong Grammar.
The Vic Country squad also includes Rochester midfielder Jacob Atley.
The carnival continues on the Gold Coast next week.
Vic Country plays Western Australia at Metricon Stadium on Monday before tackling South Australia at Southport on July 8.
