A fight between players from North Bendigo and Huntly in the May 28 game resulted in a Huntly player suffering a broken nose. An official from each club became involved in the fight.
Both clubs called for an investigation and, as a result, five charges were heard at the Bendigo Junior Football League tribunal on Wednesday night.
A Huntly parent and a North Bendigo parent can’t be officials at a junior football game until the completion of the 2017 season after they pleaded guilty to unbecoming conduct.
The Huntly parent, who was a boundary umpire on the day of the match, was guilty of making contact with a North Bendigo player.
The North Bendigo parent, who was a water carrier on the day of the match, was guilty of making contact with the Huntly boundary umpire and using inappropriate language.
On top of the 18-month suspension as an official, the North Bendigo parent was also suspended from playing football for eight matches.
A North Bendigo under-14 player was handed a one-match suspension after pleading guilty to a striking charge.
Both clubs were handed a $2000 fine, suspended until the end of the 2017 season, and each club must attend a BJFL initiated education and personal development program. Failure to comply would result in full payment of the suspended fine.
The fifth charge – a racial vilification charge against a Huntly player – was dismissed.
AFLCV junior operations manager Norm Sheahan said the investigation and tribunal hearing had provided the clubs with an education process.
“Rather than smack the clubs, it’s about education, personal development and club welfare,’’ Sheahan said.
“The mandatory programs the clubs must attend will make them better clubs.
“If they don’t attend, the hefty fines will hang over their heads.”
