TRACK specialist Glenn O'Shea will learn within two weeks whether he will get a chance to better his silver medal effort at the London Olympics in Rio later this year.
The Bendigo cycling champion was back in his hometown last weekend to contest the Merv Dean Memorial Tour of Bendigo.
He remains hopeful of gaining selection for his second Olympic Games.
"There's not a lot more I can do - I've done all the racing, it's now up to the selectors, O'Shea said.
"I've been training very hard the last few months, doing a lot of road stuff.
"Basically we'll see in the next few months and we'll go from there."
O'Shea won silver as part of the men's 4000m pursuit team.
He also finished fifth in the six-stage omnium, just a few months after being crowned champion at the 2012 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Melbourne.
O'Shea fell agonisingly short of a third world championship gold medal, having to settle for bronze after a countback in the omnium at the world championships in London during March.
A four-time winner of the Bendigo Sports Star of the Year award, O'Shea said, if selected, he was confident of being a contender in Rio.
"I'm pretty hopeful. I got a good result this year at worlds," he said.
"I think if I go I am a good medal chance - I think I can win a gold medal.
"But it's a very hard thing to do to get into the Australian team at the moment.
"Our pursuit team has been flying and they'd be nearly favourite to win."
Three of the winning quartet, Callum and Miles Scotson and Sam Welsford, and reserve Alex Porter were also in Bendigo for the Merv Dean Memorial.
The elder of the Scotson brothers Callum was crowed tour winner.
O'Shea's tour chances were ruined by a mechanical failure during stage two, where he lost considerable time.
The 27-year-old, however, said he appreciated the chance to get back to Bendigo and support the local club.
"I only get home a couple of times a year these days,' he said.
"From here it's back to Adelaide for about 10 days and then off to America."
O'Shea signed for ONE Pro Cycling for 2016.
He is coached by former Bendigo-based cyclist Tim Decker.
