Exhibit brings Discovery Centre alive

So the centre’s manager Jonathan Ridnell said the latest exhibit – ‘Minibeasts’ – was a new and exciting challenge. 

“Discovery does physical concepts like light and sound really well,” Mr Ridnell said. “So we wanted to bring in something living and breathing.” 

He said ‘Minibeasts’ had filled the centre with vibrant insect specimens, a powerful microscope, a dunny full of redbacks and other creepy crawlies and, watching over the whole display, ‘Augustus’, the giant ant. 

Mr Ridnell said money for the exhibit had come from last year’s fundraising efforts which saved the centre from extinction, as well as other grants and donations. 

“As part of the restructure challenge from last year we told ‘the crowd’ that anything we raised which exceeded the $30,000 needed for 12-months operation would go towards ‘Minibeasts’” he said. 

“Hopefully we can keep critters alive and kicking to make it a permanent exhibition!”
