Broadbent settled into the Roos’ midfield mix with ease in the club’s 45-point win over Castlemaine.
“He played exactly the way I thought he would. He is a ball winner and uses the ball really well,’’ Stevens said of Broadbent.
“He needs to get used to our boys a bit more, but he was at the bottom of a lot of packs. His physical pressure around the ball was good and he’s going to be a very good player for us.”
Broadbent is a premiership player with Tullamarine (2003), Maribrynong Park (2009, 2010), Tatura (2012) and Deer Park (2013, 2015).
The Roos needed extra depth in the midfield to challenge the top teams and they will be close to full strength for this week’s big game with reigning premier Strathfieldsaye.
Another high-profile recruit, Lance Oswald, will return from a calf injury to tackle the Storm.
The Kangaroo Flat versus Strathfieldsaye game highlights one of the best rounds of the BFNL season.
Top team Golden Square hosts Kyneton on the back of the Tigers’ stunning upset of Sandhurst.
