Trout season to end as crayfish season opens
Anglers will no longer be able to fish for trout in Victorian rivers from June 13, but will still be able to catch the fish in lakes. Fisheries Victoria executive director Travis Dowling said the end of the trout season would protect spawning trout and give wild stocks an opportunity to reproduce. “We still want people to enjoy our trout lakes because we’re aiming to grow participation to one million anglers by 2020,” he said. Meanwhile, fishing for Murray spiny crayfish will be permitted from Wednesday.
