Underdog Gym's Patterson won a unanimous points decision against James Blaze on a huge Young Guns 5 fight card at the Croatian Club in Footscray.
The win was the Bendigo fighters's second in three amateur fights.
He is expected to have his swansong in Melbourne on June 19, ahead of turning professional of the next Ultra Promotions show at the Westend Market Hotel on July 29.
A 1000 strong capacity crowd were treated to 22 bouts of boxing, kick boxing, k1 and modified Thai rules, with the clash between Patterson and Blaze serving as the main event.
His trainer Phil Chapman said the last time Patterson fought he was the semi main event, so he’s starting to get used to the long wait on fight night
"But taking on a more experienced opponent in James Blaze, fighting k1 rules on less than a weeks notice and actually being the main event added greatly to pressure and nerve’s Patterson was feeling while waiting for his introduction," Chapman said.
"But after a few quiet words, Patterson remained focused and was ready to go as soon as he was introduced.
"He edged himself slightly in front in the first round with his superior hand skills.
"In the second round the referee applied an eight count on Blaze placing Patterson three points in front.
"Patterson finished strongly in the third round landing some punishing kicks and knees on his opponent."
Chapman said Patterson had impressed Melbourne Promoters John Scida and Joe Demicoli with his skill and aggression.
"He's definitely a crowd pleaser," he said.
