A Ballarat loss the previous night to the Nunawading Spectres opened the door for the Braves to overtake the Rush in the east conference standings.
But they were unable to capitalise, stumbling to a 67-82 loss to the powerful Rangers line-up.
WNBL star Kelly Wilson led the way for the Braves with game-highs in points (21) and assists (10) and nine rebounds.
Tahnee Cannan came off the bench to post 11 points, while centre Caitlin McLachlan and guard Jane Chalmers both chipped in with nine points.
The Braves were out-rebounded 54-39 by the Rangers.
Chloe Bibby and Lauren Scherf contributed 31 rebounds between them, while Clare Papavs added 10.
Papavs led the Rangers with 18 points, while Bibby chimed in with 15.
