A MEMORIAL baseball match has raised healthy doses of money for the Asthma Foundation and awareness for organ donation groups.
The third-annual Matty's Perpetual Memorial Baseball Cup swung into action at Maiden Gully Recreation Reserve on Sunday between Scots and Falcons.
It celebrated the life of Bendigo baseballer Matty Lawry, who died after an asthma attack in 2013.
His mum Julie said the scoreboard was irrelevant as the clubs faced off in A and B grade matches, with Falcons scoring a 10-2 win over Matty's former team in the main game.
"(The result) doesn't matter. We don't mind, we love Falcons," Julie said.
"If we can raise awareness of two good causes, inspire and bring people together, then it's been a success.
"It was an awesome day and is getting bigger and better every year."
The event raised money for the Asthma Foundation of Victoria and awareness for Donate Life and Donor Families Australia.
Organ donation is a cause close to the Smith family, with Matt being a donor.
Matt's family were thrilled to be able to follow up on the people who received his organs, including one who, after receiving Matt's heart, went on to complete his university studies and went into medicine.
His corneas have allowed two others to have sight.
Ms Smith said the event received tremendous support from participating organisations, the Bendigo Baseball Association, both clubs and the wider community.
She praised the assistance of City of Greater Bendigo active and healthy communities manager Patrick Jess in getting the game to Maiden Gully after it was previously staged at Eaglehawk's Albert Roy Reserve.
