EVENTS: The Bendigo Art Gallery has created a wonderful series of events to complement the gallery's Marilyn Monroe exhibition.
Some highlights include:
- Screen-printing workshops, Saturday, May 14 and 21, 1pm to 4pm. Andy Warhol’s Marilyn prints are legendary and here’s an opportunity to try your hand at screen printing. Spend an afternoon learning the basics of this printing technique, cutting stencils and creating your own artwork. Marilyn Monroe, Hollywood and pop art might be your starting points, or draw from your own source of inspiration. Each workshop will be held offsite at Studio Antics screen printing studio at 53 Main Rd, Campbells Creek. Cost is $50. Bookings are essential via the gallery 03 5434 6088.
- Some Like it Hot, Ulumbarra, Saturday, May 14, 7pm. There will be a variety of Marilyn inspired cocktails, with the movie starting at 8pm. Come along in your most fabulous 50s or 60s Hollywood inspired outfit. Cost is $30 for a concession and $25 for Ulumbarra, Star Cinema and Bendigo Art Gallery members. - Art and tea, Wednesday, May 18, La Trobe University Visual Arts Centre, 121 View St, 10am. Join renowned fashion photographer Monty Coles, as he discusses his work photographing some of the world’s most celebrated models and fashion designers. Monty worked and lived in London, NY and Paris before moving to Australia in 1980. He has shot major fashion stories with Australian Vogue for over a decade and is currently sessional tutor and adjunct professor of RMIT University. Presented by the Friends of the Bendigo Art Gallery. Free. Hearing loop available.
- Flinders Quartet, 5.30pm, Friday, May 27. Flinders Quartet, one of Australia's most-loved chamber ensembles, will return to present a dynamic and stirring performance of chamber music in the gallery environment. This event will be presented by Bendigo Art Gallery and Flinders Quartet. Bookings are essential. Cost is $35 or $30 for members.
- Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend cocktail party, 7pm to 10pm, Saturday, June 4. Enjoy the exhibition, Bendigo Art Gallery and Twentieth Century Fox present Marilyn Monroe, and celebrate her birthday with a glass of champagne. This red carpet event will raise funds for the Bendigo Art Gallery Foundation.
Curated by Bendigo Art Gallery, the exhibition will be on display at the art gallery until July 10.
