Fallen trees and building damage kept Bendigo SES busy in the wake of an early morning thunderstorm.
Bendigo SES unit controller Fiona Beecham said there were eight calls for assistance from 3.10am.
“It has quietened down now,” she said just after 10am.
“All tasks are now complete.”
She said the majority of the calls were in relation to tree down traffic hazards from Kangaroo Flat to Goornong.
There were two calls about building damage, both in Kangaroo Flat.
Ms Beecham said they were neighbouring properties damaged by fallen trees.
She urged people to take note of traffic conditions, avoid parking under trees, and never to try to drive into flood water.
Statewide SES spokesman Marc Dorey said Victorians placed more than 700 calls for storm-related assistance overnight.
Most were in relation to damage in metropolitan Melbourne.
“We’ve had a few calls in the Bendigo area, but certainly not to the sort of extent we are seeing in some of those suburbs like Narre Warren in Melbourne,” he said.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm alert for most of Victoria at 1.21am, warning of damaging wind, heavy rainfall and large hailstones.
An update just before 7am advised the immediate threat of severe thunderstorms had passed.
It also contained the following advice from the SES:
* Keep clear of fallen power lines.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
