GTM promoter Stephen Halpin said the festival would be firing in Bendigo on Saturday – rain, hail or shine.
“This is nothing, just a few drops to freshen the site,” he said.
“I think the forecast is to be mostly clear, so I’m sure it will be fine.
“At Oakbank (last year) it just rained all day and was very muddy and it was hard work.”
Bendigo has been getting into the GTM spirit with local venues and organisations asked to help out with the event.
We love Bendigo, it’s so nice to have that support and enthusiasm. We never take it for granted.
- Stephen Halpin
Mr Halpin said involving the community was important to GTM organisers.
“Something we believe in is we want to embed ourselves in the community of each place we visit,” he said.
“It’s a big thing for a festival this size to come to a city the size of Bendigo, so we want to make sure Bendigo benefits from it and shares in the vibe and economic boost that it brings.”
As it has in past years, Bendigo was the first leg of the GTM tour to sell out.
“Bendigo is always first to sell out and we are so grateful for it. We love Bendigo, it’s so nice to have that support and enthusiasm. We never take it for granted,” Mr Halpin said.
“The festival is starting get a lot of city-based people coming to these shows and it is an opportunity to see what a great city Bendigo is.”
So far Groovin the Moo has visited Canberra, Maitland and Oakbank.
“The shows have been great and all the bands are really happy with the great crowds,” Mr Halpin said.
“The kids have been getting in early, so the early bands have been playing to great crowds and there has been a fantastic energy.”
Mr Halpin said there were a number of acts that would provide highlights.
“Twenty One Pilots are a stadium act and Alison Wonderland and Ratatat have been great in closing the show,” he said.
“Across the board the performances have been fantastic.
“The Rubens with number 1 in the Hottest 100 has meant that's been a massive sing along.
“There have also been quite a few collaborations. At Oakbank Drapht had some of the Hilltop Hoods guys on stage and What So Not played with Alison Wonderland, so there are a few secret collaborations.”
Groovin the Moo is at the Prince of Wales Showgrounds. Gates open at 10.30am with the first acts playing at 11am.
