NEWBRIDGE coach Matt Dillon says his Maroons need to improve the mental side of their game if they are to turn around back-to-back losses in the Loddon Valley Football League.

After a positive start to the season with a round one win over Marong, the Maroons have since followed it up with losses to Pyramid Hill (47 points) and YCW (32), during which they have kicked just 13 goals.
“The disappointing thing with us is that after looking promising in round one and working really hard, we’ve dropped our work-rate off the past two games,” Dillon said on Friday.
“We’ve spoken a lot about the mental side of things… maybe we thought after a good start that we’d just cruise through, but the league has picked up and there aren’t any easy games.
“The mental attitude is probably what’s let us down and not coming to games prepared to work for four quarters, so that’s what we’ve addressed this week.”
The Maroons, who regain star players Lachlan Ford and Brad Comer, take on Inglewood on Saturday, with the Blues no doubt sensing an opportunity to win their first game since round two, last season – and their first against Newbridge since 2010.
Perennial battler Inglewood showed against top-three contender Calivil United a fortnight ago when it dominated the second half and fell just two points short of the Demons that it can’t be under-estimated this season.
Saturday’s games: YCW v Marong, Inglewood v Newbridge, Mitiamo v Calivil United, BL-Serpentine v Bridgewater. Pyramid Hill bye.
