Eaglehawk Anzac Committee chairman and Vietnam veteran Paul Penno said it was very encouraging to see so many people attending services throughout the community.
“These smaller services are often more personal,” he said.
“They are spreading with other community centres like Strathfieldsaye, Huntly and Axedale wanting to hold their own services.”
Vietnam veteran, author and historian Murray Poustie spoke about specific Eaglehawk service men and women when he addressed the crowd.
“It had a real personal touch to it,” Mr Penno said.
“A lot of the families (Mr Poustie spoke about) are still here. They are part of Eaglehawk's history and it gives meaning as to why people come to these events.
“Murray's presentation was really special in that way because we are reminded of the enormous effort that went into the recovery of the minds, bodies and souls of those who suffered.”
