Chelsea and Chloe Hall have only been competing in the sport a short time - less if you count time off for injuries - but are certainly creating plenty of waves.

The 13-year-olds finished first and second in the sub-junior (under 14) section at the 54th Australian Barefoot Championships in Liverpool, New South Wales.

Contested on the Georges River, Chelsea won the tricks division and finished second in slalom to snare the national title.

Chloe placed first in the slalom and was second overall.

It was not the first time the twins had finished one-two at a major championship.

In March, Chelsea claimed the Victorian sub-junior title when first in trick and second in slalom, narrowly ahead of Chloe, who was first in slalom and second in tricks.

The twins rise to prominence has been every bit as quick as the boats that power their small frames through the water.

National title holder Chelsea only took up barefoot skiing 18 months ago, but was sidelined for seven of those months after dislocating her shoulder.

Chloe's introduction to the sport came at Christmas 2015.

Together they have competed in just a handful of tournaments.

When they are not rivaling each other in tricks and slalom events, Cheslea and Chloe spend time forming pyramids and swiveling while indulging in their other passion, show skiing.

The Marist College students say they have had to shelve the bulk of their other sporting pursuits, including netball and triathlons, to concentrate on their skiing.

"We don't really have time now because we are skiing every weekend and during the week," Chelsea said.

"We do ski show training, land training and some sport at school," added Chloe.

Chelsea said she and Chloe were looking forward to competing in their final Victorian Barefoot Waterski Club event of the season, the figure eight, where skiers start on opposite sides of the wake ski, while the boat drives in the pattern of a figure eight. 

The skier who is the last one standing wins, with the event pitting skiers from all levels, including open men and women, junior and sub-junior.

Chelsea said that could see her or her sister come up against the likes of current Australian trick record holder and four-time national representative Brendan Paige and current Australian men's champion Keenan Deery.

"We don't take it that competitively because the whole (Victorian) team is real supportive of each other," she said.

"We're in it to have fun."

Chloe agreed.

"Because Chelsea won tricks and overall, I'll be happy for her and not disappointed," she said.
