THE jury in an historic Rochester rape trial has been discharged after it failed to reach a unanimous or majority verdict on Tuesday.

John O’Connell, 69, had been charged with raping a 16-year-old in 1967, as a 19-year-old.
The allegations were brought to trial after the man conceived from the encounter encouraged the mother to take the matter to police in 2000.
