The Bendigo Doll and Teddy Show celebrated its 25th birthday, with plenty to entertain child collectors and grown-ups alike.

This year's event featured a change of venue, with the show moving from its former home at the Kangaroo Flat Leisure Centre which is no longer.

Show helper Amara Biggs said the new venue had been well received by stall holders and show-goers.

"We had a good turnout - things were a little slow to begin with, but it really picked up later in the morning," she said.

"We got a lot of good feedback about the new venue."

Ms Biggs described the 25th birthday milestone as a "massive achievement".

"We've raised about $60,000 in that time for the palliative care auxiliary and a few other charities," she said.

"Everybody has that inner child - people young and old like their dolls."

For young friends Charlotte Wigney, from Maiden Gully,and Anna Winter, from Marong, Barbie was a clear-cut favourite.

A feature of this year's show was a collection of the top dolls and teddy bears from the first 24 shows.

This year's competition attracted more than 100 entries, with Cheryl Templar winning the doll of the show and Trudy Pearce claiming the teddy bear of the show.

First-time exhibitor Joan Watson was grateful for the opportunity to showcase her wares.

The 81-year-old started making dolls less than 10 years ago, making about 120 in a five-year period.

She developed breast cancer not long after taking up the hobby and said it acted as a good distraction during her treatment.

Now cancer-free, Mrs Watson said she had little use for the dolls at home so had decided to sell them at the show.

"I've sold a lot - I'm not sure I'll have any stock to sell any next year," she said.

"But I'd recommend doll making to anyone - it's a wonderful hobby."

With her doll making days behind her, Mrs Watson has turned her attention to other crafts including tapestry and smocking, and playing bowls for Eaglehawk.

"We play our second semi-final on Monday and if we win that against Bendigo East we are in the grand final, " she said.

"They are a tough team.

"We won the premiership last year and now we're hoping for a second."
