Although it has battled for consistency, BLTC Quest showed it’s a force to be reckoned with in a six-game win against the ladder-leading Spring Gully Butterflies.
The Butterflies led 2-24 to 1-17 after the opening doubles matches at Bendigo Lawn Tennis Club.
Quest struck back as captain Isaac Watson beat Matt Hartland, 5-7 7-5 11-9.
The number two singles also went to a tie-break as Quest’s Jayden Baber triumphed, 4-6 6-1 11-9, against Ryan Leader.
Quest led by three games going into the final three doubles contests.
Although Gully won the 11th set in fine style, Quest won sets 10 and 12 to seal a 8-84 to 7-78 victory.
Craig Nolan and Stuart Johansen won all three rubbers they played for Quest.
The Quest team-mates conceded just two games apiece in their singles matches against Tim McNamara and Danielle Bowles respectively.
Bendigo Lawn Rising broke Strathfieldsaye’s winning run.
Highs for Rising included a 12-2 win by skipper Eliza Long against Jayden Blencowe, and the 13-2 win by Jordan Hicks against Matt Conroy.
Strathfieldsaye hit back with wins by Michael and Easton Smyth, but it was Rising which proved too strong, 8-90 to 6-75.
A 16-game win for South Bendigo was set up in the opening six sets against Epsom.
South’s great start included a 7-6 2-6 10-8 win by Sam McHarg against Jack Baker.
A hard-fought number two singles match ended in a 4-6 6-3 10-3 win for Epsom’s Travis Johnston against Frank Ryan.
McHarg and Grant Leader capped unbeaten runs as South won 10-91 to 6-75.
