The mammoth sculpture of Marilyn Monroe being erected in Rosalind Park is set to be unveiled at 11am today.
But at 8:30 this morning, the statue was still missing its torso and head.
Collections manager Sandra Bruce said the crane used to assemble Forever Marilyn would return to the park’s piazza after school traffic cleared.
She also said the weather had helped the five-person construction team, who came from the United States, assemble Forever Marilyn quickly.
After her grand unveiling, the team will touch up the statue’s paintwork.
Passers-by were already gobsmacked by the larger-than-life installation, with Ms Bruce commenting several families had picnicked in the nearby park to watch its construction.
“We’ve had a couple of very dedicated young audience members,” she said.
