Boo Seeka were announced, along with 24 other acts, as part of this year’s GTM line-up.
“Before I was on stage playing music, I as at every festival you could think of,” Gumbleton said.
“Falls, Splendour, Groovin the Moo, Woodford. That was my life. Weekends and holidays were all based around festivals.
“For a lot of people (GTM) is an annual religion. A lot of people have been going for years and plan their year around the festival before the line up is announced.
“I haven’t seen 90 per cent of the bands (on this year’s line-up) live before, so I can’t wait.”
Boo Seeka began their musical life about a year ago, when Gumbleton and Sam Croft met four days before going into the studio.
“We met through a mutual friend and were trying writing a song when we walked past a garage sale and there was an old synthesiser for $50,” Gumbleton said.
After working with each other for less than a week the duo came out with their first single Kingdom Leader.
Boo Seeka is now described as a hip-hop-psych-soul-dreamtronica project.
“The hip hop side things is influenced by the way hip hop beats makes you move and groove,” Gumbleton said.
“The dream-tronica is more synthesised sounds that myself ans Sammy are into. We love creating melodies on melodies. In some of our songs there’s three or four different synth melodies.”
The pair’s first single got the attention of blues-folk singer Kim Churchill who invited them to tour with him.
“We were very lucky considering Sam and I only met a few days prior to going to the studio,” Gumbleton said.
“We told Churchill that we only have got one song and he said we had two weeks to come up with 30 minutes of material.
“So we were literally writing songs on trains, buses and planes. We worked super hard.”
Their surreal 12 months ended with their single Deception Bay finishing at number 50 in Triple J’s Hottest 100.
“We didn’t think even get in the 100. When we heard some of songs in the 90s and 80s, we thought there’s no way we going to make the 100,” Gumbleton said.
Before Boo Seeka arrive in Bendigo they are continuing their current Australian tour.
“After that we are getting back in the studio and working on tracks for our debut album,” Gumbleton said.
GTM arrives in Bendigo on Saturday, April 30. Tickets for the Bendigo show go on sale on February 3.
