His slick sculptures draw on motifs commonly associated with protection; shiny helmets, goggles and guns become desirable consumer-friendly items.
Wimhurst says that “to be human is to be open and exposed to a world that contains danger and the risk of harm.”
He suggests that while protection from physical harm is easy to deal with, “protection from mental and emotional harm is a little more complicated.”
Protection will be officially launched at the VAC this Saturday, January 16 at 2pm.
Also opening at the VAC is Andrew Southall’s exhibition, Will these do Mr Hockney?
2016 is set to be another exciting year at the VAC.
