Age no barrier to live music dream

BENDIGO’S most talented seniors turned out in force this week to audition for Ballarat’s Live Your Dream Senior Star Quest.

This year marked the first time auditions were held in Bendigo and the event’s third year running.

Local entries varied from comic acts to dancers and singers.

Ballarat Vocal Arts Association spokesman Garry West said he hoped to see the annual event grow to allow the local talent pool an opportunity to compete.

“It’s outstanding – there has been a huge cross-section of music, from country to classical opera,” he said.

“Many have travelled to Bendigo from outlying areas as well, which is great to see.”

The event is presented in Ballarat each year in October and is free to enter.

More than 140 entrants and 30 finalists travelled from across Victoria to take part in 2011.

Mr West said the aim was for seniors to live their dream and have a go, regardless of experience or ability.

“Many retired artists enter each year but there is plenty of room for newcomers, no matter how old
