Athletics Bendigo’s impressive medal spree included silver in the 40-plus men’s 4 x 400m and 4 x 1500m, under-16 boys 4 x 400m, and bronze in the under-16 boys medley relay.
Medley relay legs were 200m, 200m, 400m and 800m.
A highlight of the success in the 40-plus 4 x 400m was athletes from three clubs – Eaglehawk, Bendigo Harriers and South Bendigo – joined forces.
A past winner of the Bendigo Thousand and Black Opal 400m, South Bendigo’s Glenn Stephens led off the charge to victory with Bendigo Harriers’ Phil Noden, Eaglehawk’s David Chisholm and South Bendigo’s Greg Hilson.
Silver medallist in the 40-plus 4 x 1500m were Bendigo Harriers’ clubmates Phil Noden, Craig Green and Peter Cowell and South Bendigo’s Greg Hilson in a time of 18:57.98.
South Bendigo clubmates Josh Pickthall, Matt Cindric and Nigel Self teamed with Luke Rowlatt from Bendigo Harriers to run an impressive second in their heat of the open 4 x 400m.
The Bendigo quartet achieved a time of 3:21.46 and will contest the final at this Saturday night’s Zatopek meeting at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park.
