The network used the history-making, day-night cricket Test match between Australian and New Zealand to signal the arrival of its new service.
But despite the number of on-air plugs for cricket in HD easily eclipsing the number of wickets that fell at the Adelaide Oval, they were all lost on the region's cricket fans.
It follows the decision by WIN TV, which broadcasts live cricket in country regions, not to switch to High Definition.
Nine's Facebook page was swamped with complaints across the weekend from those in meteropolitan areas experiencing difficulty accessing the new service and others in country areas wondering why they had missed out.
One unhappy viewer posted: "Again, Australians living in regional Australia treated like second rate citizens!
It is understood WIN employees were told last week that the network would not be launching its HD channels at the same time as Nine.
