The former Hawthorn rookie has been one of the best midfielders in country football for the past decade, winning league medals in the Goulburn Valley and Ovens and Murray football leagues.
Height, 32, joins the Dragons after spending the past three seasons with Myrtleford.
“Kristan is a highly credentialed country footballer, so he is a great get for the club,’’ new Sandhurst coach Wayne Primmer said.
“He played football with Tim Martin in the past and Tim’s been on his case to come to Sandhurst. Kristan is a school teacher in Melbourne and will get up and train with us when he can.
“He’ll be a quality midfielder for us and he’ll spend time in the forward line as well. The best thing is our younger blokes will learn from him on how to prepare, how to train and from what he does in games.”
Height brings with him former Myrtleford key defender Hamish Leahy.
Height and Leahy’s signatures offset the departures of midfielder Zac East (Bridgewater) and retired veterans Ben Anderson and Ryan Haythorpe.
“We’re happy with where we’re at as far as recruiting goes,’’ Primmer said.
“Kristan is one of the best players in country Victoria...I’m not sure Sandhurst has had a recruit of Kristan’s status for a long time.
“Hamish gives us another key backman which is handy. We’d love to get a full-forward, but if that doesn’t happen we can get around that.”
