RELATED: BFNL TO LIGHT UP IN 2016
A CLUB-by club glance at the 2016 Bendigo Football-Netball League fixture released on Friday.
CASTLEMAINE – two home games to start the season, one of which will be played on Anzac Day night on a Monday in round two in what will be a first for the BFNL. That clash against Strathfieldsaye is scheduled be the Magpies’ first game under their new Camp Reserve lights.
EAGLEHAWK – make a trip to the QEO in round one to take on South Bendigo. Don’t play any of this year’s finalists until they take on Strathfieldsaye away in round four. Has three lots of back-to-back home games in rounds 5/6, 11/12 and 14/15.
GISBORNE – play their two biggest rivals in the opening two rounds: away against Kyneton in round one, followed by a home game against Golden Square on Anzac Day. Later play three-consecutive home games in rounds 13/14/15 against Eaglehawk, Castlemaine and Kyneton.
GOLDEN SQUARE – start the season with a pair of away games against Kangaroo Flat and Gisborne. Host Strathfieldsaye in round three in what’s fixtured to be the first game under their new lights. Also have a night game at home against South Bendigo in round five.
KANGAROO FLAT – play three of their nine home games at night against Golden Square in round one, when they will open their new social rooms and scoreboard, against Gisborne in round three, and later finish the home and away season out under lights against Castlemaine in round 18.
KYNETON – three home games to start the season, including round three against Castlemaine in what’s fixtured as the first night match for the Kyneton Showgrounds. First five games are all against teams that missed the finals this year.
MARYBOROUGH – on the road for the first two rounds of the season against Castlemaine and Sandhurst. Have a block of three games in a row at home in rounds 8/9/10 against Kangaroo Flat, Golden Square and Sandhurst.
SANDHURST – take on Strathfieldsaye in round one in the grand final rematch. After the tough start against the Storm the Dragons don’t play another of this year’s finalists until round six when they travel down the Calder to meet Kyneton.
SOUTH BENDIGO – no easing into the season for new coach Brady Childs and the Bloods, with their first three games all against finalists from this year in Eaglehawk, Kyneton and Sandhurst in what’s the annual Graeme Wright Memorial Cup match. Host Strathfieldsaye at the QEO on the Queen’s Birthday Monday, and also have three games at Harry Trott Oval – against Castlemaine (round seven), Kyneton (round 10) and Maryborough (round 18).
STRATHFIELDSAYE – play seven of their first 11 games at home, including a Sunday grand final re-match against Sandhurst in round one. The Storm host two of the three Sunday games fixtured in the BFNL, also playing Kyneton in round nine. Are the opponents for Castlemaine and Golden Square for those clubs’ first games under lights in rounds two and three.
