Martin ended the first round at Sydney’s Australian Golf Club at +6 after shooting a 77 in the fluky wind.
Martin’s first round featured three birdies, but they were offset by two bogeys, two double bogeys and a triple bogey on the par five 5th.
It was a much tougher day for Mueck, who shot a +9 80, mixing three birdies with six bogeys, a double bogey and finshing with a quadruple bogey 9 on the par five 18th.
Bendigo-born Rhein Gibson ended the opening round at +1.
Lincoln Tighe (-5) leads the Australian Open, one shot clear of Matthew Jones (-4).
