LOCKWOOD: A couple traveling around Australia are likely to remember Bendigo for all the wrong reasons after they became the target of an opportunistic thief on Thursday night.
The couple, from Maitland, had parked their car and caravan in parkland opposite Happy Jacks on the Calder Alternative Highway in Lockwood on Thursday night.
Between 11pm and 8am the next day, a Honda petrol generator, which was attached to the caravan with heavy duty chain, had been removed and stolen.
Bolt cutters had been used to cut the chain.
The generator was valued at $1900.
BENDIGO: Police are calling for witnesses to an assault in the Bendigo CBD in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A 22-year-old man left Star Bar on Pall Mall at 3.20am and ran into two unknown males while crossing Mundy Street.
The two men asked if he wanted a beer, and he walked with them to Hargreaves Street, where they suddenly started punching him to the head and ribs.
The two men then fled.
The man went to the taxi rank on Pall Mall bloodied and bruised, and received treatment from Salvation Army officers before he was taken to Bendigo Health.
He received a number of stitches before being discharged from hospital later on Sunday morning.
EAGLEHAWK: A house in Eaglehawk had an unwanted and violent visitor in the early hours of Sunday morning.
At 4.30am, the occupants of the house on Campbell Street were woken to the sound of a man grunting at their front door, before he kicked it a number of times and punched through a window.
The door and window both sustained heavy damage.
The man, who was wearing a hoodie, then fled.
GOLDEN SQUARE: A Golden Square resident was left thousands of dollars out of pocket after a generator was stolen from their open garage on Friday night.
Between 7.30pm Friday and 10.30am Saturday, the red KVA Honda generator, valued at $2000, was taken from the garage on Sterry Street.
The item was likely to have been visible to passers-by.
GOLDEN SQUARE: A number of tools were stolen from an unlocked toolbox left in the tray of a ute parked at a house on Booth Street, Golden Square, on Friday night.
The thief was caught on the house’s CCTV system taking the items between 9.20pm and 9.26pm.
He stole a Paslode fixing gun and a number of other items, valued at $500.
The man was wearing a baseball hat, shorts and gloves.
GOLDEN SQUARE: A number plate, with registration PWF 377, was stolen from a car parked in Elliot Street, Golden Square, between 6pm Wedesday and 8.50am Saturday.
GOLDEN SQUARE: A man is assisting police with inquiries after police recovered a stolen ute from a house on Kirby Street, Golden Square.
The HJ Holden ute had been stolen from a house on Chum Street between June and July.
GOLDEN SQUARE: A number of hand tools, valued at more than $100, were stolen from a garage on Kirby Street, Golden Square, last week.
Between 9am on November 12 and 2.10pm on November 18, the tools – including a jigsaw, drill and heat gun – were stolen.
FLORA HILL: A motorbike was stolen from in front of a house on Dreschler Street, Flora Hill, between Friday and Sunday.
The blue Yamaha motorbike with registration 1J4 UK, valued at $3000, was stolen between 9pm on Friday and 7pm on Sunday.
BENDIGO: A bicycle, carry rack and pannear bag were stolen from the backyard of a house on Frederick Street, Bendigo, on Sunday morning.
The items, valued at more than $100, were stolen between 1.25am and midday on Sunday.
BENDIGO: An antique chainsaw was stolen from a shed behind a house on Niemann Street, Bendigo, at some stage over the course of three months.
The elderly occupant, whose disability means he rarely ventures to the shed, noticed the 1950s chainsaw missing between September and November 19.
The chainsaw is valued at $500.
KANGAROO FLAT: Residents on Lockwood Road, Kangaroo Flat, were the victims of senseless violence on Saturday night.
Between 7pm Saturday and 8am Sunday, a brick was thrown through the window of a car parked in their front yard.
GOLDEN SQUARE: A woman in her mid 20s was caught on CCTV camera stealing handfuls of chocolate bars and two packets of Nurofen from the Caltex petrol station on High Street, Golden Square.
At 8.30pm, the woman entered the store and grabbed the items before being driven away in a blue Toyota four-wheel drive.
She was wearing a white t-shirt and black skirt.
BENDIGO: A wifi dongle and mountain bike were stolen from a house on Bramble Street, Bendigo, on Friday.
Between 9am and 4.30pm, a window has been jemmied open and the items were taken from inside the house.
