AS the festive season quickly descends on us, the Twinkle Twinkle Bendigo – Keeping Christmas Local campaign is back for another year.
Businesses are urged to decorate their shop windows with Christmas displays to encourage people to eat, drink and shop locally.
As well as experiencing a spike in sales as a result, businesses will have the chance to win a $3,000 advertising package courtesy of the Bendigo Advertiser and 3BO FM, presenters of the campaign along with the City of Greater Bendigo.
Businesses can enter the small business category if they have up to 10 employees or the larger business category if they employee 11 people or more.
A public vote, open from December 11-18, will determine the best displays.
The winners will be announced on December 19.
Voters will go into the draw to win one of five $200 GoTix vouchers, which can be used to redeem tickets at the Ulumbarra and Capital theatres.
“Essentially the whole promotion is around encouraging people to be involved in the festive spirit,” said Terry Karamaloudis, the council’s major events manager.
“There are hundreds of retailers and businesses around Bendigo and our grand plan is to see all the shops participate and decorate themselves in some way, shape or form to help lift the spirit around the city.”
Mayor Rod Fyffe urged business and shoppers to embrace the campaign and get into the festive season spirit.
“I think it’s a great idea for businesses to get into the spirit of Christmas,” he said.
“It helps everybody’s spirits (and) will be great for business.
“So decorate your front windows, decorate your shops, entice people to join in and let’s get behind the community and our businesses.”
To enter your business, a registration form will be available online at www.bendigoadvertiser.com.au from Friday, November 27, to Thursday, December 10.
