A BENDIGO schoolteacher will be eyeing the gold when she dons the gloves at the 2016 Australian Boxing Championships.
Jocelyn Amiet will take to the ring in the elite women's 54kg division.
Amiet and her Hit Factory boxing gym trainer Danniel Burton will leave for the Gold Coast on Wednesday, ahead of the four day event which starts on Thursday.
The Bendigo boxer, who spends her weekdays doing after school hours care at Quarry Hill Primary School , qualified for the championships by winning the Victorian title in August.
Despite a 4-8 overall record, Amiet was quietly confident of her chances.
"A lot of the girls have gone down to 51kg becuase that is an Olympic division," she said.
"There's five other girls and me, so the odds are pretty good.
"I haven't fought any of them before - it's a new bunch of girls - I don't really know much about them."
Amiet, who has been boxing “off and om” for about six years and four years in total, for four years, believed her preparation for the showcase event had been strong.
"We've had a really good lead-up. I've had a couple of hard fights before it and plenty of sparring," she said.
"I've been going to Melbourne a fair bit and I have got to spar with some tough girls down there."
Amiet has contested the nationals before and said she thrived on the challenge presented by the sport.
There's always something new to learn and always something to perfect and work on," she said.
"It takes a lot of time and effort, but I am willing to put that in."
Amiet joined the Golden Square-based boxing gym in 2013 and has since blossomed under the tutelage of Burton, who earlier this year coached a Victorian team at the Australian Amateur Boxing Championships in April-May.
She reached the semi-finals at the April-May championships, losing to Queenslander Hayley Finlayson.
