$12m health centre to open in Mollison Street

A MULTI-purpose primary care medical centre nearly four years in planning is only weeks away from opening.

Leading Healthcare Bendigo managing director Adam Sevdalis said the $12 million facility in Mollison Street would bring at least 20 new jobs to the area.

Pacific Smiles Dental, IPN Medical Centre and Melbourne Pathology will fill two levels of the operation, while the top floor remains without a tenant.

A pharmacy will operate on the bottom level.

IPN Medical Centre chief operating officer Joe Martorana said 12 doctors would be based at the centre, eventually increasing to 18.

The company acquired two medical practices in Sandhurst and Strathfieldsaye and is relocating them to the new facility.

Mr Martorana described the new medical centre as its “flagship practice, Australia-wide”.

“From a facility point of view, if you compare it to where they’re working now, it will certainly be a better place for patients to go and for medical staff to operate out of.

“We are very proud of the new centre. We think it’ll be great for the community.”

Mr Sevdalis agreed.

“I cannot see anything that is not a benefit to the community,” he said.

Mr Sevdalis said it would attract medical health professionals to the area, as well as national medical groups.

“There is a huge demand in health services and not enough supply,” he said.

“It is bringing in national groups which are normally based in metropolitan areas to Bendigo.

“All up it’s about $15 million of investment.”
