The Bendigo Business Excellence Awards are back – under new ownership – with nominations opening Thursday.
Bendigo Business Council will run the 22nd edition of the awards, taking over from the Rotary Club of Bendigo Sandhurst.
“The [BBC] is delighted to announce partnering with the Bendigo Advertiser in delivering the 2016 Bendigo Business Excellence Awards,” CEO Leah Sertori said.
“In taking on the awards the BBC has focused on three key things: how to add more value for participants and mechanisms for providing feedback, how to build the capacity entrants along the way and how to increase the profile of nominees and winners.
“So we’re delighted to annonce this year’s naming rights partner is Advertiser and that we have media partnership with Southern Cross Austereo and will be able to deliver exceptional media profile to both nominees and winners.”
Nominations close December 18 and Ms Sertori said she hoped to receive several hundred.
“The winner will be announced at a gala celebration hosted at Ulumbarra on 20 May 2016 and we have pulled together an Oscar-style celebration,” she said.
“It will include the red carpet and really high-quality entertainment dispersed throughout the evening, including headline and local performers.”
Ms Sertori said the BBC was proud to celebrate small businesses.
“We think the role small businesses play, particularly in regional communities, is absolutely vital,” she said.
“They are the largest employer and yet there aren’t many opportunities on the calendar to celebrate and recognise the contribution they make – so the excellence awards are a really important platform to do that.”
Nominations can be made via the Bendigo Business Council website from Thursday and – as of next week – via the Bendigo Advertiser website.
Last year’s Business of the Year was Keech Australia.
Among the other winners were Chateau Dore – Small Business of the Year – New Business winner Brewhouse Coffee Roasters and Not for Profit and Community Service Organisation Baptcare Home-Start Bendigo.
