Strathdale's Nick Walsh had a personal reason to back number seven in the third race at the Bendigo Cup.
"Lucky jockey today," he said.
"Harry Coffey, a young apprentice who's got (cystic fibrosis) so we're backing him.
"That's my lucky charm today."
Mr Walsh’s son Jayden has also suffered from cystic fibrosis since being diagnosed 12 years ago at the age of six, so the races had a special significance for Mr Walsh.
“My eldest son suffers from the same disease so I thought it would be a good luck charm for the day to back all Harry’s rides,” he said.
“(Jayden is) getting along OK so I thought it’d be a good idea just to back Harry's rides and hopefully we can win a few dollars and hopefully he has a couple of good wins as well.”
As for the day's other big attraction, Mr Walsh was modest about his efforts in the fashion stakes.
"We had a Hawaiian theme so I thought I'd get into the groove of it all," he said.
"I've gone out specially and bought it at Lowes."
