Which showbag should you spend the last of your pocket money on?
When the Cunningham kids see the variety of bags on display at the Bendigo show, they won’t be fazed because they have done their homework.
After being asked to pick out a favourite, Kurtis, Harrison and Tahlia only needed a few minutes to make a decision.
Harrison came back with a Hot Wheels bag, Tahlia chose Monster High while Kurtis selected the classic Cadbury bag.
“The rides look cool but I have come for the showbags,” Kurtis said.
“I like chocolate and there’s enough in there for me.”
Tahlia and Harrison went away from chocolate and opted for something that will last a bit longer even if it cost a bit more pocket money.
“I like Hot Wheels because they’re cars and I have a lot of them,” Harrison said.
Tahlia, who also loves fireworks and animals as well as showbags, got good value with her Monster High bag.
“They’re a bit like Barbie dolls, there’s things like necklaces and headbands in here,” she said.
“That and we like seeing the monster trucks,” she said.
“The kids aren’t daredevil kids or anything, they are happy to go on things like the dodgem cars.
“They do get excited for the show and they love showbags.”
Most basic showbags hover around the $6 or $10 mark before heading up to about $20.
The World’s Greatest Showbag, always a popular choice, is priced at $22 and features items like dancing water speakers, glitter lamps and a remote control car.
Other popular kids showbags runs at $25 and include Hello Kitty, Minecraft, Ben10, Peppa Pig, Dora the Explorer and Goosebumps.
Sports fans should be happy with the Socceroos, AFL and NRL bags while the more obscure showbags on offer at the $25 mark include rock band Kiss, Sons of Anarchy and Family Guy.
Sadly the ever-popular Bertie Beetle showbag seems to not be on offer this year, which will disappoint veteran show-goers.
Kurtis, Harrison and Tahlia’s mother Kristy Cunningham said the family never missed the fireworks that come with the Bendigo Show.
The Bendigo Show is on Friday and Saturday. Entry is $15 for adults, $8 for kids under 15 and free for kids under 5. A family pass costs $40. Gates open at 9am.
