But Halloween displays in stores are getting bigger and trick or treating is becoming more common.
Bendigo author Anne Mangan had her fifth children’s book Emu’s Halloween published and released in September.
It aims at making the October holiday more relevant to Australia.
“I was asked by my publisher to do a Halloween one after I wrote an Easter story with the same characters,” Ms Mangan said. “They are definitely talking about it more in schools and I have seen Halloween decorations in stores.”
