Scott Bury, 47, failed to appear in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Monday, but his defence counsel notified the court of his intention to contest some of the 17 charges.
Charge sheets stated he faced two charges for an incident on July 2, in which he unlawfully assaulted a female taxi driver with a meat cleaver in Bendigo.
The 15 other charges refer to Bury’s alleged use of a stolen credit card to make more than $800 in purchases at eight stores across Bendigo on August 31 and September 1.
He used the credit card at Coles, Woolworths, Hungry Jack’s, Chemist Warehouse and Big W outlets in Bendigo and Golden Square on the two days.
He was arrested and charged on August 9.
Bury will contest some of the charges at the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court next month.
