The man then fled the scene and was later found to have been drink driving.
He pleaded guilty in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Monday to careless driving and drink driving in relation to the crash in July.
The court heard he was driving his grandma’s car north on Mitchell Street, before attempting to turn right into Myers Street.
He accelerated too quickly away from the traffic lights and lost control, fishtailing on the road.
He hit the rear of a parked car, shunting it forwards three metres. A number of witnesses in front of the Coles supermarket witnessed the crash.
The man drove down the road before stopping, then deciding to flee the scene.
Later in the day, his parents accompanied him to the Bendigo police station where the P-plate driver recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.036.
P-plate drivers cannot have any alcohol in their system.
The court heard the man drove away from the crash because he had been drinking and did not want to be caught.
His case was adjourned for 12 months with no conviction, in the hope he will not re-offend in that time.
He also had his licence disqualified for six months and must complete a safe driver program.
