Darren Apps, 40, of Golden Square, was caught travelling 100 kilometres per hour in a 50 zone on Mackenzie Street West in April.
He pleaded guilty to one charge in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
The court heard an unmarked police car was on the street after complaints from residents about speeding drivers.
The officer heard a car “revving its engine loudly” on the street, before it was recorded travelling at an estimated speed of 100 kmph.
He was pulled over, and when asked how fast he thought he was travelling, Apps replied “I was going about 60”.
When the officer asked him again, he said “perhaps I was doing 70?”
Apps told police he was speeding because he was late to pick up his daughter.
Magistrate David Faram said his driving history was poor.
“At some stage the penny will drop, your record is really bad,” he said.
“It’s just crazy.”
Apps was convicted and fined $1000, and had his licence disqualified for 12 months.
He was also made to complete a safe driver program, as his speed was more than 45 kmph over the limit.
