WORKS on potentially unsafe intersections in Strathfieldsaye could be completed over the coming 10 years after the City of Greater Bendigo received a report on traffic in the growing suburb.

The council commissioned the report after receiving a petition from Strathfieldsaye Primary School students last year highlighting safety concerns around the area’s two schools.
The intersection of Wellington Street and Tannery Lane needed significant works “almost immediately”.
The state government provided funding for a roundabout at the location, with “planning currently underway”.
The next highest priority was the intersection of Blucher Street, which the report found would require work by 2021.
The Uxbridge Street intersection would require work by 2026.
In a report to council, manager engineering and public space Brett Martini said data indicated there was not high pedestrian movement in the area as there were not many houses close to the primary schools.
“Residential development within walking distance of the primary schools and the commercial centre is relatively low for a centre the size of Strathfieldsaye,” he said.
“The other constraint is the limited facilities for pedestrians to cross Wellington Street.”
The report recommended traffic lights instead of a roundabout on Wellington Street, between Uxbridge and Blucher streets.
Council officers recommended starting plans for a pedestrian crossing in Blucher Street between Wellington Street and Apsley Lane for the 2015/16 traffic program.
Council will also consider the construction of paths on the north side of Strathfieldsaye Road between Ryalls Lane and Club Court, the west side of Ryalls Lane from Guys Hill Road and on the north side of Apsley Street.
Strathfieldsaye Primary School and St Francis of the Fields will also be assisted in starting “active travel” programs.
