Tristan Edwards, 24, appeared in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday on multiple charges, including trafficking methamphetamine and handling stolen goods.
He was arrested in early July and has since spent 30 days in custody.
Prosecutor Sergeant Mark Snell said police conducted a raid on his residence on Edwards Road, Jackass Flat, on February 13 this year.
The Central Victorian Response Unit found a snap lock bag of a crystal substance in the lounge room and $1200 cash in Edwards’ wallet.
He had allegedly driven to the house unlicenced to be present for the raid.
Police also seized his mobile phone, which included messages relating to the trafficking of methamphetamine, including a message “describing the price of one point”, Sergeant Snell said.
On March 20, Edwards was a passenger in a car parked on Ellis Street, Flora Hill, which was searched by police.
A box containing a “number of deal bags” and 12 bags of ice was found under the passenger seat, which Edwards admitted to possessing.
Edwards faces charges for being in possession of stolen goods after incidents in the early hours of November 11, 2014.
The court heard Edwards and five others were at a rural property in Neilborough when police attended at 5.30am after receiving noise complaints.
Police found a trailer with garden tools and power tools.
At 7.30am, police were called to Simpsons Road, Eaglehawk, with reports Edwards was dumping a trailer of goods.
The trailer contained a four-in-one generator, water pump and welding tools, all confirmed to be stolen during a number of thefts in the region last year.
A raid was also conducted on his parents’ house, where police found a stolen nail gun.
The defence counsel told the court Edwards started using ice as a way of coping with not being able to see the birth of his child, and his life had since spiralled out of control.
The court heard he had a number of skills and displayed strong rehabilitation options.
Magistrate John Doherty said Edwards was another case of ice potentially ruining a life.
“Ice is in Bendigo, Ballarat, Sale, it’s everywhere, it’s incredible and it’s tearing society apart,” he said.
“Some think, well it’s OK, I’ll be right on it. But I don’t know anyone who’s having a good time on this drug.
“It’s probably the biggest thing I’ve seen in 25 years on the bench.”
Mr Doherty told Edwards he was “just wasting time being in jail”, to which Edwards nodded.
He was remanded in custody and the case was adjourned until October 23.
