THE public will not hear recommendations made by an independent panel into the conduct of Councillor Elise Chapman until August.

Cr Chapman was referred to the panel in March after sending an offensive tweet to a supporter of the town’s planned mosque in February.
The tweet contained an image of young girls with mutilated genitals with the comment “Oh we could have this here too? Would you like your fanny sliced off?".
Bendigo Mayor Peter Cox said the report would likely not be made public until the council’s meeting on August 5.
“As we’ve only just received it, it will remain confidential until the next council cycle and will be considered at the next forum,” he said.
Cr Cox said it “wouldn’t be proper” to speak about the contents of the report until the matter was listed on the council agenda and “council as a whole makes a decision”.
Cr Cox said in March that he hoped the issue would be resolved within a week.
Cr James Williams said the matter needed to be settled as quickly as possible.
“It’s ridiculous the way this has dragged on,” he said.
“I would have preferred it was dealt with a month ago.”
