LOCAL subcontractors say they are owed at least $3.6 million for works completed and variation payments on the Ulumbarra Theatre project.
Watters Electrical is owed about $1 million by Contract Control Services for works completed, variations and works to be completed.
Project manager Brendan Trudgett said the situation created serious cash flow issues for the business.
“It makes it extremely difficult. We’ve got creditors too; we’ve got to buy goods for other ongoing projects and we’ve got to pay for them,” he said.
“We go into overdraft with the banks to stay operational and pay our creditors so there’s another expense.”
Manager Nick Lucarelli said it was a “bandaid” fix.
“It’s hurting us. I don’t know how we’ve done it so far.”
Other businesses owed significant sums from the Ulumbarra project include CV Welding, which is owed $300,000; Creative Fit Out, which is awaiting payment of $175,000; Lightmoves, which is owed $185,000; and Acme1, which is owed $230,000.
One Bendigo business, Kaizen Fire Protection, has been forced to fold as a result of the payment dispute.
