THE “Antarctic Vortex” which sent the mercury plummetting across the east coast of Australia has lived up to its name in central Victoria, with the temperature barely making it to double digits this weekend.
Bendigo recorded its warmest temperature this weekend at 11am on Saturday when it reached 10.1 degrees.
Fortunately, the lows have been relatively mild, with the weekend’s lowest temperature of 3.4 degrees reached this morning at 7.30.
If you were hoping for a reprieve from the cold weather in the coming days, you’re out of luck – the chill looks to be sticking around with maximums of just 10 to 12 degrees forecast for the rest of the week.
Mount Macedon received a light dusting of snow on Saturday.
In Bendigo, 11 millimetres of rain fell in the 24 hours to 9am this morning.
Despite the chill, it’s far from the month’s coldest temperature – that was recorded July 3 when Bendigo shivered through a minimum temperature of -3.8 degrees.
