The Colbinabbin goal kicking machine, who has been named vice-captain of the AFL Victoria Country squad, will represent his state for the fifth time.
“I haven’t played in a Vic Country forward line with the amount of firepower that we have this year,’’ Weeks said.
“If the rain stays away we’ll have four big forwards that will be very hard to stop.
“Justin Van Unen (Peninsula) is someone I’ve played Vic Country with before, Scott Dwyer from Yarra Valley has come back from four years out of footy to play for Vic Country which is a great effort and Sam Cowling from the Hampden league is the other big forward.
“Then we’ll have (former Bendigo Gold captain) Steven Stroobants and (Albury’s) Brayden O’Hara at our feet. If our midfield wins enough of the footy we have the firepower to kick a big score.”
Weeks returns to the Vic Country team after a two-year absence. He’s no stranger to performing well on the big stage having been named All-Australian twice at the national country carnival.
“I don’t know how many more opportunities I’ll get to play at this level, so I wanted to grab this chance,’’ Weeks said. “It’s a great learning experience to play with so many great players.”
Meanwhile, Golden Square star Jack Geary will miss Saturday’s game because of a lack of match fitness.
Geary hasn’t played much footy with the Bulldogs lately because of injury and AFL Victoria coach Peter Knights was forced to make the tough call on the classy midfielder.
“It’s been a difficult one with Jack because we all know what we get from Jack and we saw that first hand when he was arguably our best player last year,’’ Knights said.
“We knew the injury he suffered in the inter-league game was going to make it hard for him. He’s attended all our training sessions and done all the rehab, but the bottom line is we had to make a call and we felt he was a touch underdone to play at this level.
“Jack accepted the decision, as we knew he would, and he’s keen to stay involved with the group and he’ll be an emergency for Saturday.”
