The company won the commercial buildings over $6 million category at the North-West Master Builders Regional Building Awards on Friday.
Fairbrother Construction Victoria divisional manager Simon Kelly said the company was proud of its work on this project.
“This remarkable building is certainly one that Fairbrother is very proud to have been involved with,” Mr Kelly said.
“This award is a great recognition of the dedication and outstanding work of our team.
“The gallery is now a world-class facility, capable of hosting some of the most precious artworks in the world, and we’re proud to be part of its history.”
The iconic new wing of the Bendigo Art Gallery was part of an $8.4 million expansion of the arts precinct and was completed in March last year.
Mr Kelly said the team were quietly confident in being recognised at the awards event.
“We were quietly confident because it was a pretty complex job and a very good finish,” he said.
“We don’t know who we were up against, there were a couple of different categories.
“It was just a really good project to be a part of. It’s a fairly prominent building that will see a lot of people go through it.
“At peak time we had close to 100 guys working on site.”
Mr Kelly said the wing was designed by designed by a Melbourne architect who previously lived in Bendigo.
As well as the new wing, Fairbrother Construction also completed storage facilities for the art gallery.
“We have done most of the extensions to the gallery over the years and work on Girton, Eaglehawk and Weeroona secondary colleges,” he said.
“Education and health are also a big areas that we do work in.”
Fairbrother is currently working on the Park View Hotel in View Street and planning to start work on a medical centre in Epsom.
The company has offices in Bendigo but is based in Tasmania.
