Classes at the school's new campus in Maple Street started operating on Tuesday.
To mark the historic occasion, students, staff and parents walked from the former campus in Laurel Street to the new facility before hosting an assembly.
Principal Barry Goode said it was a day of mixed emotions for all involved with the school.
"A lot of the parents have said, 'it's a bit sad but it's very exciting'. I think that's been the overriding feel, that it is finally here. We have had a few openings for parents to see the new school, their eyes open as wide as dinner plates when they step inside," he said.
In 2009, a merger between Maple Street Primary School and Golden Square Primary School was signed and it was agreed a new school would be built on the Maple Street site.
Mr Goode said the walk to the new school was a chance for the staff and students to show their respects to the old site and say thanks for the memories.

"The walk was about acknowledging the (Laurel Street) site and not just turning around and forgetting it. We did the same thing before we closed the Maple Street site," he said.
"It also signifies bringing the two communities together. We are all moving across, which is what we all talked about right from the start - that we'd come together and all walk across."
Mr Goode said students and staff were excited to be moving into the new facilities.
"(The new facilities) are wonderful spaces for the children to learn in. They're flexible spaces that give opportunities to learn in lots of different ways. For the staff as well, they're an opportunity to teach in some facilities that are state-of-the-art," he said.
