Firefighters were called to a store on the corner of Majorca Street and Talbot Road in Majorca just before 1.40pm Wednesday following reports the store was engulfed in flames.
Five CFA trucks attended the scene.
It took firefighters about an hour to contain the fire.
CFA media spokeswoman Angela Valente said the building was destroyed in the blaze.
"It was an old shop, so as well as fighting the fire crews had to protect some of the assets inside the store," Ms Valente said.
"These assets were pushed to one side of the shop and some items were saved, but the entire building was gutted in the fire."
Ms Valente said firefighters also worked to protect nearby houses.
Nobody was inside the store at the time of the fire.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
