Coliban Water was announced the inaugural winner of the Orica Victorian Taste Test award at the Victorian Water Industry Engineers and Operators Association (WIOA) conference on Thursday night in Bendigo.
All Victorian water businesses were invited to compete in the competition to find the best tasting tap water in the state.
An independent panel blind tested 11 samples of water earlier in the week and Coliban Water was declared the winner out of a shortlist of four.
“Bendigo has world-class drinking water facilities and it’s great to have the quality of Bendigo tap water recognised,” Coliban Water managing director Jeff Rigby said.
“This award is a great achievement for the business and our contractors.”
The award wrapped up a two-day conference held by the WIOA at the Bendigo Exhibition Centre.
More than 1300 water professionals attended the 75th annual conference organised by the not-for-profit organisation.
WIOA chief operations manager Craig Mathisen congratulated Coliban Water on its win.
“This year the water supplied from Bendigo’ Water Treatment Plant came out on top,” he said.
“It’s a great achievement for Coliban Water.” He said the Victorian Taste Test Award was created to raise awareness of the quality of the state’s drinking water.
“We saw the award as a fun and exciting way to raise awareness of the quality of our state’s drinking water and recognise the efforts of local water service providers and their operators in developing valuable water services to their communities.”
