Regional filming of The Legend of Ben Hall wrapped up this week, with Trentham, Tylden, Spring Hill, Maldon, Lancefield and other nearby towns taking centre-stage.

Co-producer Jessica Pearce said the team had scoped out the local region because of its vast beauty.

She said the actors and a crew of 54-people had been working 10-hour days for months to get the filming completed.

Now they will start filming in a Melbourne studio.

"We've captured some amazing footage and have been so lucky property owners have been so willing to let us use their properties," Ms Pearce said.

"The landscape around here - it’s so beautiful and perfect for our script."

The Legend of Ben Hall came about after a successful crowd-funding effort, with the team desperate to share the story of the conflicted bushranger.

Hall was active in central west NSW near Forbes and Billabong Creek where he was eventually killed.

Legend has it that he was somewhat of a gentleman bushranger - not good nor bad, but almost two parts of a personality; one bent on crime, the other bent on being decent.

The Legend of Ben Hall writer-director Matthew Holmes also filmed in and around the Kyneton community last year.

Holmes was working on a short film but when he released the trailer on to the film market he received interest from production company Odin's Eye Entertainment in helping to turn the short into a feature film.

"We always wanted a long version of the movie and thought the short might be a stepping stone but we didn't expect it to become a feature," Holmes said.
